MY TIME S.a.s.

“It has been a long time since I have seen an excited, happy and enthusiastic collector wandering around a national philatelic convention. It happened at Milanofil, the event organised by the Italian Post Office in Milan on the weekend of 22 April.

Poste Italiane sold, as other Postal Administrations did in the past, (for example the Chinese Post Office overprinted their Shanhaiguan Michel BF No. 15 for the International Philatelic Convention of Riccione on 25 August 1979 Michel BF No. 16 as well as the Michel BF No. 20 overprinted for the International Philatelic Convention of Hong Kong on 10 November 1979 Michel BF No. 21), 2 sheets (150th anniversary of the unification of the national monetary system and 100th anniversary of the Chamber of Montecitorio Palace) and 1 mini-sheet (Syracuse Lire 10,000 x 20) overprinted “MILANOFIL 22.03.2019 numbered from 0 to 800”, contained in a paper support (folder titled “Stamps: values over time) specially prepared for the occasion.

The stamps, as required by law, were exempt from VAT and the printed paper support instead had a VAT rate of 22%, for a total amount to the public of € 120.00 that multiplied by 500 (Poste Italiane had already reserved 300 folders for subscribers) allowed Poste Italiane to collect a substantial sum in the space of a few hours by selling out all the stamps available.

In the days following the event our collectors saw their purchase turn into an excellent investment, many traders tried to buy those same folders at four times their purchase price (€ 120.00 for an actual face value of € 107.00).

Given the huge success, Poste Italiane did not stop at this initiative but decided to present at Veronafil 2019 (May) other 2 sheets (Italia ’98 and “Il francobollo nostro amico”) and 1 mini-sheet (Siracusana Lire 20.000 x 20) overprinted “VERONAFIL 24.05.2019 numbered from 0 to 1. 200”, contained in a paper support (folder titled “Stamps: values in time II) specially prepared for the occasion and sold 900 of them (always 300 reserved for subscribers) at the price of € 220.00 in folder (actual face value € 209.60) always in the space of a few hours.

On this occasion I saw again the Milanofil collector, always excited, happy and thrilled, queuing up at the Poste Italiane stand to buy these new stamps, with him some friends who had not attended philatelic conventions for a long time. I think that this initiative has revived in many people the spirit of collecting, a deep sentiment that is often left dormant for reasons of various natures and origins. Seeing anxious and excited collectors after many years in the queue to buy their desired object reminded me of how I felt as a boy when I was anxiously waiting for a good vote… the chance to get my passion, stamps, as a gift”.
